I AM AN ANGLICAN BUT NOT AN ANGLICAN
Part 1
I was discussing with a friend of mine via WhatsApp just of recent, the discussion led to a conclusion that I said ‘they are Anglican like us’ but he replied ‘they are not Anglican like us’. Yes! We may be Anglican but we differ from each other. This gave me inspiration to write on this funny and seeming contradicting topic. I’m sorry I’m going to be very practical in this article so please bear with me. When I say I’m an Anglican, it means I was born into Anglican church, my parents are Anglican, I got baptized and confirmed in Anglican, I also got born again in the same Anglican church and hence, I became addicted to Anglican church. I fell in love with their doctrine especially the hymns and classical songs because all are biblical and help in my spiritual growth.
I love to be a member of the pioneer church in Nigeria. Going by the history of Nigeria, Anglican started both Christianity and education in Nigeria, our missionaries are radical Christians who loved evangelism more than their own lives because some of them died in the process, they were so committed to opening people’s eyes to the truth of the gospel. Considering the churches that opt out from Anglican to start a new church, it gives me supernatural boosting of Joy within because Anglican supports such too, in fact according to Ven. Sam Odubena, he said the meaning of Anglican is in John.8:32 “…and you shall know the truth and the truth shall MAKE you free”. The making is a process, it means that as you keep studying the Bible, the more you know the truth the more you experience freedom. Anglican exposed you to the truth, you learn the truth and decided to impact people with the truth by standing on your own making God your pillar, it’s really lovely to hear, it show we are growing. CAC, RCCG, C&S, Celestial and lots more, all are once Anglican member, it’s as if Anglican sourced Christianity in Nigeria, lols. Jesus remains the source of salvation anyway. These church founders got a special truth from God through different process and move on with the truth they know.
It is certain that there are some that left Anglican due to the way the church leaders or priests had treated them, the fact remains that the problem is not Anglican church neither is it Anglican’s doctrine but the person handling the doctrine and dishing it to people, so let’s understand that when we reduce a church to its doctrine alone based on how people treated you, its erroneous. It’s really certain that every churches have their own doctrines according to their beliefs of the bible and the situations they passed through. Another set of people claims they don’t have doctrine by saying they are ‘nondenominational’ but in an attempt to not be doctrinal , you are already starting another doctrine, so if someone leaves a church because of the church doctrine for another church, he will come across another doctrine in that church. I’m not part of the people that says ‘I love this church doctrine and I hate this church doctrine’, any church that centered on just their doctrine alone is faulty, I mean if the church thinks their church doctrine alone is the correct biblical doctrine and other church doctrines are wrong then it’s disastrous, its selfishness to think that your church and some churches are the only church whose doctrines are correct.
...to be continued.
