THE BEST AND GREATEST AVENGER (3rd part) by Awotiku Akinlayo David
Continuation...
David was not free with the additions so he removed and dropped them but took his usual playing weapon as a shepherd: the shepherd’s staff, the sling or catapult and five smooth stones. Look at the simple weapon David used in defeating Goliath. In Verse 45 David’s reply to Goliath announced his death and destruction to him and his people beforehand. He came to fight Goliath with just a spoken word and used a disregarded physical weapon to bring him down to his doom.
This is a pointer to the special and unique plan, style and method that God used in defeating the devil totally and flawlessly. Our case chapter will be 1Corithians 1:18-31 (TLB). Verse 21 explained why human brilliance can never save the world, the Jews were looking for powerful signs and some unique style. They were looking for a Messiah that is clothed separately, he will have weapons that was specially designed by God Himself from heaven, the superpower will be magically great that no other physical weapon here on earth will be able to withstand and contend with it. They were looking for ‘The Avengers of the 1st century (After Christ)’. These were the qualities they were looking for in a messiah. The gentiles on their part were looking for a man of great intelligence and wisdom, who agrees with their philosophies.
I’m joyous to inform you that Jesus Christ defeated the devil, darkness of the world (cosmos), poverty, sickness, failure and every other bad things of the world and especially death through His own death. He didn’t use the most powerful weapon in the heaven’s arsenal, He wore our human flesh to defeat the one and only enemy of the world just as David used a stone and a sting to defeat Goliath.
It actually sounds ridiculous to the hearing of the devil that Christ will be beaten and will die a shameful, miserable or criminal’s death just to beat him and come out victoriously. The bible told us he never knew God’s plan to defeat him if not he would have prepared and strategies way to stand it, it came unaware and unexpected weapon was used. (1Corinthians 2:8 …for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.) It looks foolish to the devil and to the princes and rulers of this world but 1Corinthians 1:25 – ‘this so-called foolish plan of God is far wiser than the wisest plan of the wisest man and God in his weakness-Christ dying on the cross-is far stronger than any man.’ Everything went the exact way as Isaiah prophesized in Isaiah 53, other prophets spoke about it but the Jews never took them into consideration hence they found it difficult to believe that Christ is the one the prophets wrote about.
