YOU DON’T HAVE TO BATH EVERYDAY; ONCE HE HATH BATH YOU, THAT’S ALL by Awotiku Akinlayo David
The admonition to bath daily from our tutors was a regular feature in
our primary school days. Time and time again they tell us the benefits of
bathing daily and the consequences of skipping baths to the human body. Now
that we are fully grown, we understand better the need to bath daily as we were
taught earlier on. As a testament to this, many of us now bath twice or thrice
per day. A physical bath is good for the body because it washes dirt away from
our body, resulting in a healthy body. I would have listed the benefits of a
physical bath but this article is not focusing on physical washing but a
spiritual bath.
We were once corrupted, deeply covered with the
dirt of sin, we were so dirty that the blood of animals couldn’t wash away our
sins even though it was offered over and over during the Old Testament.
From Hebrews 9: 9b-10a – ‘…in it gifts and sacrifices are offered, and
yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience
or of cleansing and renewing the inner man of the worshiper. For [the
ceremonies] deal only with clean and unclean meats and drinks and different washings,’ [AMP]. Also Hebrew
10:1-4 – ‘For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the
very image of the things, can never with
these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those
who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered?
For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of
sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of
bulls and goats could take away sins.’ [NKJV] Verse 11- 'Under the old
covenant, the priest stands and
ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again
and again, which can never take away sins.'
This clearly explains that the sacrifice of
animals was never able to wash us clean of ours sins irrespective of how many
times it was offered. It only reminds us of our sins. The high priest that is
tasked with offering this sacrifice always has to offer a sacrifice for his own
sins before doing the same for others. Hebrews 7:27 – ‘Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices
every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the
people. But Jesus did this ONCE FOR ALL
when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins.
The first thing I want us to know is God's
promise to CLEANSE US [Ezekiel 36:16-27]. The verses below are very
vital...25-27 – ‘Then I will sprinkle
clean water on you, and you shall be clean; …I will give you a new heart and
put a new spirit within you. …I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to
walk in My statutes.'
This is to show us that a process was needful
for us to meet the requirement of accommodating His Spirit. The first is to SPRINKLE
CLEAN WATER ON US so that we can be clean and the next is GIVING US A NEW HEART
and a new spirit so that we can be presentable and qualified to accommodate the
His Spirit that He wants to give us, then finally HE’LL GIVE US HIS SPIRIT.
Jesus said in one of His parable that we can’t put a new wine in an old
wineskin. Hence there was a process of purification before an accommodation
resulting to transformation as by the spirit of God.
I’ve got good news for you which is in Hebrew
9:11-15 – ‘But Christ came as High Priest
of the good things to come …with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place
once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. …who through the eternal
Spirit offered Himself without spot to God …cleanse your conscience from dead
works. And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of
death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that
those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.’
Christ as our High Priest went straight into the Most Holy Place in heaven and
used His own blood signifying the pure/clean water that God promised in our
previous passage, (Ezekiel 36:25a, also Hebrews 10:22b). He used His blood to
bath us all once and through this we got eternal redemption, therefore we
required no more sacrifice, cleansing or washing, no more daily bath because
Jesus has cleansed us all once and for all and that is all the cleansing we
need for our life.
He has used His blood to wash us clean and present us holy to God so
that we can be qualified to accommodate God's spirit. By the means of death, He
is the mediator of the new covenant for the redemption (forgiveness, cleansing)
of the transgressions under the first covenant so that we can receive God's
promise of an eternal inheritance.
Note that Jesus didn’t go to the earth’s Most
Holy Place but He went straight to God’s presence, He appeared and presented
his blood once and forever to wash away our sins. Hebrews 9:11 – ‘So Christ has now become the High Priest
over all the good things that have come.He has entered that greater, more
perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part
of this created world. With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he
entered the Most Holy Place ONCE FOR ALL TIME and secured our redemption
FOREVER.’
Hebrews 10:9 – ‘Then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God."
He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect.’ He offered ONE perfect sacrifice that would
take care of sins once and forever. He bore the penalty of our sins (law
breaking) on our behalf as a means of making us clean once and for all.
Hebrews 10:10;12;14;18 – ‘By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body
of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice
for sins FOREVER, for by one offering He
has perfected FOREVER those who are being sanctified. Now where there is
remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.’ These things
He has done for us once and for all and the bathing was forever so I conclude
here that we are forever and eternally saved.
Finally brethren, this is my charge for you in
this dispensation of time, I’ve seen several people praying every day that God
should wash them clean with His blood and purify them again and again. It’s
unscriptural, there was no one in the bible who God had to wash clean twice or
daily. It is not a daily bathing, it’s a
lifetime bath. God has mysteriously washed us clean once and for all
through Jesus’ blood over 2000 years ago, you need no other washing again. The
blood is potent enough to keep us clean FOREVER!
You have to correct your mindset, Jesus doesn’t
wash daily, you don’t need purifying
anymore, you only need to live your life with the consciousness that you've
been purified, give expression to God's nature in you. Since Christ has
washed you clean Himself, don’t look forward for another bath but look forward
to the day He will appear the second time. Stop praying to God to wash or bath
you again, indirectly you are saying Jesus should come and suffer and endure
cross again (ahn-ahn bros you wan kill God again? Lol).
It is not right to pray such prayers, God will not do what He has
already done. Do you even know what Jesus had to go through just to bath you
once and now you think you can fast and pray 100days to make Jesus come back
again to earth and wash you again, ehn? (Abeg! Be careful! Don’t lemme vex for
you in the spirit ooo). You know there are times we pray amidst, no wonder
Jesus said to James and John in Mark 10:38 – ‘You do not know what you ask.’
Please be mindful of what you pray about.
Jesus has done the cleansing once and for us all, all He wants us to do
and what we need to do now is to constantly renew our minds to be conscious of
what Christ did for us. And peradventure if you sin, you don’t need any forgiveness anymore
because He has forgiven you even before you commit them. Have the consciousness that it is no more your nature to sin because
you have been given a new spirit through the purification, sanctification and
you have now host a spirit in you that cannot sin. You only confess it
because you want to free your conscience of guilt and forgive yourself, so you just
tell God you are sorry and out-live the reality of your new nature. Put off the old man and put on the new man.
It is well with you.
Don’t request for a second cleansing. Once Jesus has cleansed you with
His precious blood, sin's dirt never gets to stain you again! That one time
bath is all you need for a lifetime with God’s Spirit. Titus 3:5 – ‘he saved us, not because of the righteous
things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the
Holy Spirit.
Thanks and Remain Blessed
I Love y’all
