LESSON FROM COLOSSIANS 3:12-17
Colossians 3:12-17 – ‘Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Now, it started with 'put on' meaning 'wear' as cloth.
Because u are God's elect, we don't put on holiness and love, its our nature because God is love and God resides in us.
Put on, also means 'practice' 'rehearse' bowels of mercies, like, let them see d nature of holiness in ur cloth by practicing all those things
Forbearing, many don't understand this word. For-bear-ing, meaning before someone offends u atall, u should be ready to bear whatever people do to u even before dey do it.
When you understand this fact that people will always remain human being, no matter how spiritual they can be, i tell u, nothing, i mean nothing can offend u anymore.
Then u forgive, when u understand how grievous u were before God forgive u, I tell u, u will forgive no matter what anyone can do to u.
We don't expect a mango juice to come out when we squeeze an orange, its impossible, so also we don't expect anger or annoyance when people squeeze u as Christian.
I do hear of this parable that ‘if u push to d wall, I will turn back to u?’ Hmmmm
Christians don't have a specific elastic limit at which we turn back and fight back, when they push you to d wall, my friend, break d wall and allow them keep pushing, it's a show that u are God's elect. Hallelujah
Also put on love, love is ur nature, true! But it should also show in ur cloth that u have love in u.
A theoretical LOVE is fake love, a practical LOVE is the true Love.
Also set ur heart in peace, let it rest abeggg don't burst ur heart with different grudges, annoyances or gossips. It can affect ur communication with God, it sets distractions and limitations before God's presence, so let go of all offences and free ur heart to God.
Finally, this is where I'm going gangan (specifically), verse 16.
The word of Christ dwell in u richly in all wisdom
U don't get it right?
Can you see a tautology there?
"The word" and "Christ"
Sebi (Like,) Christ is d word. So its like saying 'The Christ of Christ’ or ‘the word of the word’ dwell richly in u
Jesus spoke some things while on earth as teachings, example is the beatitudes in Matthew 5,
Paul is saying, everything Jesus is saying, don't joke with it, take time to meditate in it thoroughly so that u can apply them in ur life,
I know its not easy to forbear or forgive some sins but I tell u, it is very easy to do so for someone who the word of Jesus richly dwells in him.
And everything u do, do it all in the name of Jesus.
You don't preach morals to live a good moral life, you preach CHRIST to live a moral life. Joseph Prince.
