THE MYSTERY OF MY NAME (Personal) [DAVID] By Awotiku Akinlayo David
SESSION 2
DAVID
This is a very common
Christian name meant for special and extraordinary persons in the world (lols many will be jealous now, don’t worry
you are unique also) If I am opportune to come back to this world and name
myself, David will be the first name that will come into my mind. The qualities of David from the bible were
specially arranged and extraordinarily different from any other person. In
Acts.13:22, we clearly see the testimony of God Himself towards David, ‘a man after God’s heart’ so are we
the David of our generation, we are unique, special and handsome (just like me) because we are God’s
beloved. Actually, David from the
original Hebrew word, it is from the word ‘dawidh’
which means ‘Beloved’.
According to 1Sam.16:18, He was skillful in playing harp,
mighty man of valor, man of war, prudent in speech, handsome in look and
basically, THE LORD WAS WITH HIM. I kept on wondering how can a musician
be a warrior as well and how can a warrior be handsome at the same time. You
should know that we don’t term someone a warrior by his physical strength or
power not by his relation with warriors and not even by going through warrior
training but by his experiences. The wars he had fought and conquered so
definitely there must have been some bruised that would have disfigured a
warrior’s face. David was someone who fought different wars during his time. He
was also a musician. Theologians said according to the history of David, he was someone that could play fifteen (15)
different musical instrument skillfully, so he is not just an ordinary harp
player but also a skillful multitalented instrumentalist. All these qualities
ended with ‘the Lord was with him’
no wonder he could possess all those qualities. By God’s grace, I am attaining
such kind of level in no time because my bible tells me ‘I can ALL THINGS through Christ Jesus who strengthens me’, it will
always be a challenge for me as I grow up.
As I think about my life, I remember David, he was not
just someone who only knows the Lord but he was someone who loved and served
the Lord wholeheartedly. He has more physical and spiritual visions of Jesus
Christ than any other men of old (proof
me wrong, lols), Jesus Christ came through his descendant. David’s role in
the scripture made the scriptures more meaningful, lively and relevant even
more romantic (Solomon was his child).
The name David was mention in about 28 books of the bible. He was not perfect
in living right, yes! That’s correct because he engaged in some horrible sins
as men would describe it (sin remains sin
in God’s sight, no matter how small or how horrible it might be) but God
still loved him and saw him as a man after His own heart, what a great
compliment.
David was not just a
God-fearing man but a God-loving man. He worshipped God in spirit and in truth,
he searched for deeper things of God, he’s always wanting to please God, he’s always
hungry for more of God, he takes to corrections and he’s always full of praises
to God, giving thanks at all times.
Most times the way he
handled things amazes me both spiritually and physically, he thought me how to
handle difficult situations. He was someone who was always ready to accept
fault when he commits sin, he’ll wholly accept the punishment of his sins. In
respect to that, I have always find it easy to accept my weaknesses and let
God’s grace take charge (boasting in
Christ). You know some times I do
feel probably I’m a reincarnation of the biblical David (lols reasons remain
personal) because I realized I have cultivated those actions and it has become
my habits, I mean it has now become part of me.
