THE MYSTERY OF MY NAME (Personal) [AKINLAYO] By Awotiku Akinlayo David
SESSION 3
AKINLAYO
This is the name I love most
among all the names that was given to me by my parents, it’s like a Yoruba
representation of David. Many see this name to be meaningless; in fact one of
my pastors categorically told me to my face that the name is meaningless in
this modern generation. Hold it! Don’t think much! Let’s review the name
together and conclude if it is meaningless or not, let also clear something
out: it is impossible for me to have a
meaningless name when my life is meaningful.
Akin-la-yo: Akin means ‘a brave warrior’, as in the story
of my surname, my forefathers or ancestors were brave warriors of their time.
‘Layo’ is a combination of two words ‘ni/li’ (according to Yoruba bible translation) and ‘ayo’, means ‘joy’.
Back in the Old Testament, if you critically check through the places where
wars were fought and won, there is always an uprising of songs, galore of
celebrations for victories. An instance was the case of Jephthah (Jdg.11:34),
also the time of Joshua and Gideon, but the list won’t be complete if I didn’t
add that of David (1Sam.18:6-7) this is where the women of Israel were singing
and rejoicing. As a matter of fact, David was already assured his victory and
was already rejoicing in the lord before he went to confront Goliath (1Sam.17:26).
What I am saying in essence is this ‘you have to become God’s warrior of your life and fight the good
fight of faith. Now there is a Hebrew word called ‘Lachem’ meaning ‘fight’,
sometimes it is also written as ‘Lechem’
meaning ‘bread or feed’. God
intentionally put these meanings as the same word because feeding is fighting, we don’t
fight the enemies by fighting but by eating the word of God. When you are
in a battle or difficulties, your only fight is to stay in faith. You’ll
consciously declare ‘Father I thank you
because this battle is yours and my eyes is on you, thank you father that you
have overcome this war for me’. And this is what spring out the joy within
you from your spirit and bring it into reality.
Jesus fought His battle on our behalf against death and
hades and came out victoriously (1Cor.15:54-57), He fought death and sin and we
have victory in him. Jesus did not fight in physical or based on flesh desire if
not he would have fought those that crucified him with legions of angels but he
focused on the spiritual realm which is the real fighting ground (Eph.6:11-12).
We become a soldier of Christ when we have Jesus in us,
that’s why that song called us ‘Christian soldiers’ we keep fighting the wiles
of the devil on daily basis but you are a brave man when you are in Christ
because Christ has given us victory through His victorious Life, hence we don’t fight FOR victory, we fight FROM
victory and this gives us joy at all times. There are lots of atrocities
that the devil uses to challenge us per time but what should keep us standing
is that we have Christ in us who has given us victory already. This knowledge
is enough to gladden our heart with Joy immeasurable, when you remind yourself
that you are sited with Christ in the heavenly places far above principalities
and powers, you should rejoice (Eph.1:20-22).
Your joy shows how brave you are, you
should not pray to be problem-free but to be problem-faced and to be a
problem-solver. It is in Jesus we are brave of which brings Joy into our
hearts, because Jesus said: ‘…in the
world, you’ll surely face trials and tribulations but don’t worry, he has
overcame the world for us already’ (Jh.16:33). 1John 4:17- ‘…because
as He is, so are we in this world.’
The knowledge of this verses should make you rejoice at all times
(1Thess.5:16,18).
It is expedient to know how to handle
situations, you have God who is all-powerful dwelling in you so you don’t need
to be scared or afraid of anything, when situations that seem beyond your
capacity arises against you, you should rejoice not because of the problem but
because God understands why He allowed it and He’s capable of solving it in due
time, and that becomes an experience for you which can help others through it.
He even promised to not allow us to be tempted with situations bigger than our
faith (1Cor.10:13). Remember that David
said ‘it is only in the presence of God that fullness of joy can be found’, and
this same joy has become our strength, so be rest assured that you are
strengthened when you have the presence of God in you which means you have the
joy of the lord in you....FINAL SESSION, STAY TUNED.
