‘THE MAN KNOWN OF GOD’ (Session 1)
Good evening once again. Can we bless God for tonight and pray in tongues if u can, this night is going to be an amazing time. (Who is praying right now? Please don't joke with it.) Holy Spirit is in u to give u utterance and prayers should be altered so speak in tongues verbally, pray for light tonight.
Tonight we receive light of the gospel, we receive clarity of God's word and we understand God perfectly by his Spirit in us, no confusion or contradictions in this Atmosphere, at d end as we will be blessed and edified then God is glorified in Jesus name we pray. AMEN!!!
Topic: “THE MAN KNOWN OF GOD!” SESSION 1
Chief text: John 10:14 - 'I am the good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.'
Hallelujah oooo
Two weeks ago, I stumbled on a very popular devotional guide for a particular day, and d topic was "Are you known of him?"
Then later I saw a post which says "It is important to know God, but it is more important to be known by God"
And I was hurt in the spirit to see that limited believers understand this being known of a thing, so I took permission from my pastor so I could explain to us what it means.
I'm sorry in advance if it is as though I'm dishonoring d great man of God, absolutely not, I respect and honour every great men of God but I won't agree with what is outside context when explaining Bible even if it comes from d biggest man of God on Earth.
I believe by the time we look through the Bible ourselves, u will see many things.
And I believe CONTEXT will go a long way in accepting this truth of the Bible.
I've taught on context before on this platform and honestly u have every right to penalize me if u see me quote a place out of context, feel free to ask questions, I'll be willing to hear context from u too.
Amen!!!
So as I saw d devotional guide, I was so eager to read it, then d chief text
was Matt. 7:21-23 where Jesus said some will come to him on d last day and say
they did this and that in his name, but he will say he never know them.
We will also look at this verse as we continue.
Then d commentary started with "it is one thing to know God but it is completely different thing to be known of him."
Truth be told, the verses that were quoted were mostly out of context except d John 10:14 which happens to be d memory verse.
I will touch some of d verses and we will see it in context.
The commentary later ended with a question which was the topic, then a prayer that says "Father, I want to be known by you as one of your special children"
Apologies to those using d devotional guide, I'm sure some of us might be using it, I am not saying u should stop o but I believe u should understand bible enough to identify errors when u see it, don't be blinded with the fact that it's coming from a big man of God.
Remember that anytime I'm teaching and I quote a verse, I'll ask u to read it yourself so that u will be sure it’s in CONTEXT else it can be so near truth that u won't know it's erroneous until u understand bible well.
That said!
Let's see from the Bible in context, what it means to know God and be known by him!
I hope someone is following me.
From the chief text in John 10:14, Jesus said "I am the good Shepherd, and know my sheep and am known of mine."
Following d story from verse 1, u will see many things Jesus said concerning himself and figuratively expressed to help people's understanding.
He first said he is the door to the sheepfold.
Then Jesus explained that to enter into d sheepfold is only by him, any others is not correct.
Further explained the fellowship of the sheep with the Shepherd that is the sheep are familiar with the Shepherd's voice.
He reaffirm his word again in verse 7 that he's d door of the sheep & explained what it means to go in by d door which is himself in verse 9.
I am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be SAVED, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
The word "saved" is the Greek word 'sozo' which means to save, to deliver, to protect, to heal, to preserve or to make whole.
Let's see two or three places where this word was used
2Tim. 1:9
Who hath SAVED us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
He saved us!
How?
By grace which he gave us in Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8 also said For by grace are ye SAVED through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
U are saved by God through Christ.
2tim.4:18
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will PRESERVE me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Jude 24
Now unto him that is able to KEEP you from falling, and to PRESENT you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
My emphasis was intentional, just to tell u that the saving of God for us, does not just stopped at saving us from sin or giving us salvation alone, it extended to him preserving and keeping us.
It's his work to keep our salvation for us intact till the day of redemption.
That was confirmed by d holy spirit when the Bible said he sealed us with the spirit till the day of redemption.
I've heard theories of yes Jesus gave us salvation but we can loose it so it's our responsibility to keep it well.
Well...as true as it may look, it's not correct.
Lemme ask us something
How many of us are keeping our DNA in our blood to make sure it does not go away maybe when we bleed?
Do u do anything to get your dad's DNA into your blood?
No!
So is it your responsibility to make sure his DNA in u does not waste of be lost?
Obviously no!
My pastor will say "If we are d one to keep our salvation, we will have lost it d next day we got saved"
So it's not your responsibility to keep or preserve your salvation, it's his own!
Again Sozo in Greek includes to preserve.
He saved us once and FOREVER
Hallelujah!
Hence we are kept or preserved by the one who saved us.
Amen???
Lets come back home.
So to enter through d door which is Christ is to be saved.
Correct?
What does it mean to be saved?
We have discussed this in our previous series.
To be saved is to believe the Gospel.
It means to be born again, born of God, have the spirit of God.
To believe d gospel is to believe that Jesus died for ur sins and was raised for our justification.
I don't want to dive into that again
Every man has d right to be saved, and that's y there is need for evangelism.
Jesus died for everyone.
And that's y in verse 16, Jesus wants to bring more Sheep to the fold.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
John 10:25
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
So I can now say from verse 25-26 that those that are not his sheep are those that do not believe in him, those that does not believe in his works.
Which means to be saved is to have believed and to have believed is to be his sheep.
Clearos???
From 27 Jesus said he knows his sheep oooo.
He knows them!
Which them?
Those that had believed; those that are saved; those that have received eternal life; and those that has the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said he knows them.
After showing them that he gave them eternal life and they can never perish, then he said no one can pluck them out of his hand which means no one can pluck them out of his father's hand.
Jesus now said in Verse 30 "I and my father are one!"
Which means that for Christ to say he knows his sheep is the same to say God knows his sheep because they are one.
In that verse 14 I want us to examine the word "known"
It's d Greek word 'ginosko' and it means to have knowledge, to Perceive, to resolve, to be sure of or to understand.
We have explained this word while we were studying 1John two weeks ago.
When we were explaining 1John 3:6 that d man that does not abide in him has sinned, and d one that sinned is d one that has not seen (horao) God neither has he known (ginosko) Christ.
And we explained that to sin is to not believe Christ.
Did u remember Sha?
So it is very expedient to understand what it means to know God.
It is basically to believe the gospel and it means to be saved or to be born again.
Who is he that does not know God?
D one who does not believe Christ.
D one who sins and we said to sin is to disbelief the gospel of Christ.
So we are still talking about the same thing.
He is also someone who does not abide in him.
So they are all different use of words that means the same thing.
Unbelievers are d one that has not known God.
And its because they didn't believe d gospel of Christ.
Are we on the same page here???
So lemme quickly explain those verses quoted to back up being known by God.
We have Matt. 7:21-23, 2Tim. 2:19 & 2Cor. 10:18.
Let's see d three, context will help a lot.
Matt. 7:21-23
21 Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the WILL of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Please note the words especially the tenses used by Jesus here.
CONTEXT!
What's context again?
Pretext + Post text = Context.
Simple math!
So to know who Jesus was talking about here is to go up a little to see it.
Let’s see verse 15-16
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
We can see here that Jesus was warning his ppl to be careful of false teachers.
I mean false prophets rather
Reading that from verse 13, u will see that Jesus was figuratively explaining himself as d only way to d father and anything else are wrong...
There will be many others claiming they are from God yet they are lying.
So he said we should enter d narrow way which is life and that's Christ himself.
D narrow way is figuratively saying Jesus is the holy way to d father.
So could Jesus be talking about believers here?
A Member’s Response: To me I will say no, but talking about dose who never believe in his name and never believe in his gospel.
My Response: Wowwww that's brilliant of you. You are very correct... The will of God is to believe Christ.
He said those that do d will of the father?
What's d will of the father?
Here is 1John 3:23-24
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
And I said that it's like a repetition of what Jesus said
Here is it.
John 6:28-29
[28] Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? [29] Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Now to further back this verses up on the will of the father.
John 6:38
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
See also 1Tim. 2:3-4
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.4 Who will have ALL MEN to be SAVED. and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Hence who is the one that will enter the kingdom of heaven?
The one who does the will of the Father.
And what is that will? TO BELIEVE.
Hence the one that believes.
I believe it's clear
Jesus now exempt them from those that will come to him and say they prophesied and did many miracles in Christ name.
These are the people Jesus never knew, it was not that they were known by Christ before and later maybe they lost their salvation when they were about to die.
No!
Jesus said he will tell them in capital letter.
Haysssssss Helloooo broda shaggi I NEVER KNEW YOU.
tankie
Therefore who were the people Jesus will say this to?
Verse 16 said you shall know them by their fruits!
Also repeated by Jesus in verse 20
Who are those that we will know by their fruits?
It’s so loud!
*FALSE PROPHETS!*
See verse 15 again
Beware of false prophets.
That was Jesus command or advice.
So he started telling them about false prophets, how we will know and identify them, what fruit they produce, figuratively what disciples they made and what will happen to them later on that day.
How he will deny them of being a stranger to them.
This shows clearly that Jesus was talking about what will happen to false prophets not Christians.
Again this verse was NEVER for Christians; don't use it to scare anyone at all of hellfire or heaven.
I've seen people used this verse for Christians especially in popular Devotional guide i saw it, whereas it contextually talking about false prophets' fate at the end.
Tomorrow we will look at 2Tim. 2:19 &2Cor. 10:18 to see if they are talking about being known by God.
Then we will further buttress the truth that God knowns every believer.
Thanks for your time
