THE MAN KNOWN OF GOD (Session 2)
GOD’S PURPOSEFUL YOUTH (G.P.Y.) ONLINE TEACHING
‘THE MAN KNOWN OF GOD’ (Session 2)
Let's pray...Our father, in the name of Jesus, we ask tonight that u give us clarity that is found in your word, no contradiction neither confusion in this Atmosphere. As we behold Jesus in the word, you are glorified and we are edified in Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Our topic tonight is "THE MAN KNOWN BY GOD!" SESSION 2.
A quick review or recap of yesterday's teaching.
I started with what I saw that made me see d need to open our eyes to things like this.
To know God and be known by God!
Are they two different things?
We explained the word SAVED as in SOZO in Greek, which does not just mean to save or deliver alone, it also includes to protect, to preserve or keep.
Which means that God did not just save us and left us to keep our salvation, instead he keeps it for us.
He is the author of eternal salvation (Heb. 5:9) and he's able to save to the uttermost that is forever. (Heb.7:25)
We further buttress that to be saved is to believe the gospel and it is to know God that is ginosko in the Greek, to understand or be aware of or to perceive.
Then we further explain Matt.7, that d one that does the will of God is the one that believes the Gospel. The believer is someone that has ginosko God.
And that those that Christ will say he never know them are d false prophets.
And I said we will be starting with two further textes that was quoted in that devotional guide to defend the one God knows from those who only know God.
This is where we will start from tonight.
Anyone following should type AMEN!!!?
2Tim. 2:19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
So who are the 'them' that are 'his'?
John 10:14 again
I am the good Shepherd, and know MY sheep, and am known of MINE.
BELIEVERS
HIS SHEEP
CHRISTIANS
SAINTS
HIS CHURCH
Then what is the verse talking about, is Paul disclaiming some set of believers who think they are known of God and God does not know them?
Context will help us answer it.
Let's see from the previous verses.
From verse 1, u will see that Paul was urging Timothy his son concerning ministry of the word.
Verse 2, that which u have heard of me and from other witness, entrust it to faithful men, who will also teach others.
Verse 3, endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ.
Verse 4, no man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life,...
We should be able to decode here that Paul's topic in this chapter was MINISTRY.
How to run his ministry in the correct way.
That was Paul's focus.
Then after another short teaching from verse 2 down to verse 13, he told him to put in remembrance the teachings and also use it to charge other brethren.
Then he's to rigorously and diligently study in verse 15.
Study is the Greek word spoudazo, we've explained it here before, it means to labour, to be eager, to do your utmost best.
Studying Bible is not easy, it's not special grace that I know more than anyone on this group, in fact that I'm teaching does not mean I know more than anyone,
Your attitude to studying determines your spiritual growth level.
We study with all diligence so that we can show ourselves approved of God unto man.
That means you are already approved by God but u have to study to rightly divide the word of truth.
Note: You don't study to be approved unto God, no! U are approved of God in Christ Jesus (2Cor.5:21) but d reason we study is that we might be able to defend the truth and explain Bible in context without error.
That's how to show men that u are approved of God, ur ability to correctly analyse the word of truth to clear confusions from people's mind.
Is that clear enough???
See verse 16-18
But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
So what were Hymenaeus and Philetus doing?
They were preaching Heresies
Which one?
That rapture already happened.
So many people had said covid 19 is killing those who are rapturable, that rapture has happened already and we didn't go. So it means to be rapturable now, u have to go and contact covid 19 so that u can die and enter heaven.
What a bunch of foolish jokers.
Can u imagine?
So even them that are saying it are still left here and they don't want to get d virus oooo
Are u even aware that we have received news of people cured of covid 19 by the power of God?
Anyway, let's come back home.
Paul was now warning Timothy of those that preach Heresies. He said he should not argue or be discussing with them because it will increase ungodliness, and it will subvert the hearers.
Don't try to argue with them. Just accurse them which means to separate from them, don't listen to them at all.
There is no how much they can say it that will remove d truth from remaining the truth.
If a Muslim does not believe that Jesus died for him, it does not mean Jesus didn't die for him now. Jesus truly died for ALL the people but d guy said it's a lie, that's just him now, it does not stop d truth from being d truth.
That was y Paul now told Timo in verse 19 that irrespective of this errors flying around, God's truth stands forever that God knows those who teach the truth and Timothy and his disciples, the believers as a whole who believe the gospel should depart from INIQUITY.
In context, What's d INIQUITY here please?
I want response.
A Member’s Response: If I am to say, the iniquity should be vain and fame babbling
My Response: Hmmmm...on the way. What were the guys doing that brought about vain babbling? (Verse 18)
Member’s Response: They erred from the truth.
My Response: Exactly!
*HERESIES!!!*
FALSE OR WRONG DOCTRINES
Don't forget that Paul was warning Timothy to not accommodate heresies at all.
So he is instructing Timo that God knows those who teach d truth and they are to depart from heresies.
So the INIQUITY in context of 2Tim. 2:19 is HERESIES.
Note that forever!!!
Can u now see that this has nothing to do with being known of God or to know God.
Thank God for CONTEXT!!!
Lemme now rewrite 2Tim 2:19 so that it will be clear:
“Nevertheless, the truth about God stands sure, the Lord knows those who teach the truth (the ones who rightly explain God in CHRIST and his accomplishment), these ones are to depart from HERESIES (Wrong doctrine).”
Also 2Cor. 10:18 was quoted but let's see it from verse 14, context will help us.
For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand. 17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
Verse 14 last part.
...preaching the gospel of Christ.
Verse 16 first part.
To preach the gospel in the regions...
So who does the Lord commendeth?
Those who preach the gospel and not boast in another man's line, those who glory in the Lord.
Is it to be known by God?
No!
It's talking about the reward of preaching the gospel.
Not being known by God or knowing God
Can u now see that ALL the three places quoted, they all had NOTHING to do with being known by God?
Yesterday we touched a bit on those who has not (know) ie. ginosko God
And here in John 10:25&26, we saw that they are those who don't believe Christ.
And we also conclude that part that it's those that does not believe Christ are those that are not God's sheep or those that sinned i.e according to 1John 3:6&8, they are those who don't abide in God.
Let's see more text on that
1Cor. 1:18 – 21
For the preaching of the cross is to THEM THAT PERISH foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom KNEW NOT GOD, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
Those that perish are those that don't know God.
John 3:16, those that perish are those that does not believe in Christ.
1Cor. 2:6-8
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world KNEW: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Verse 14
But the NATURAL MAN receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Natural man is the one that does not know the things of the spirit of God, he can never discern them spiritually.
Heb. 3:10
Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
John 16:2-3
THEY shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3 And these things will THEY do unto you, because they have not KNOWN the FATHER, nor ME.
Who are the "they"?
Those that does not know (ginosko) the Father or CHRIST.
1John 3:6-8
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen (horao) him, neither known (ginosko) him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
A Member’s Response: Unbeliever
Therefore as I close this topic tonight.
Is there now a different between knowing God and be known by God?
We have proved that to know God which is to ginosko God is to believe the gospel.
Right?
Then to be known by God, does that denotes another meaning?
John 10:14 again.
I am the good Shepherd, and know MY sheep, and am known of MINE.
'And' is the Greek word 'kai' which is used to either join two words together or mostly use to explain same thing with different words.
"I know my sheep" is the same thing as "I'm known of mine."
Let's see more texts.
2Cor. 5:11 (NKJV)
Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.
John 14:16-17
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
1Cor. 2:15-16
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
He that is spiritual have the mind of Christ therefore knows God and is known by God.
Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
He that has the spirit of God is the one that belongs to Christ, he is the one in the spirit, he is d spiritual person that has the mind of Christ.
Clearos???
1Cor. 8:3
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
Who is he that love God?
1John. 2:3-5
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
What's his commandment then?
Here is 1John 3:23-24
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and (Kai - which is to) love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
So his commandment is to BELIEVE CHRIST.
To believe Christ is to love one another, and it is to obey his commandment and it is also to be KNOWN OF GOD.
See also 1John 3:19
And hereby we KNOW that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
1John 4:7-8
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that LOVETH is born of God, and KNOWETH God. 8 He that LOVETH not KNOWETH not God; for God is love.
Verse 16
And we have known and (Kai) believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1john 5:20-21
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen
I close with this verse
Gal. 4:9
I'll start from verse 6
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. 8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. 9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
The word 'rather' in verse 9 is the Greek word 'malion' which means that same as.
That is Paul says they have known God or better put, in other words THEY ARE KNOWN OF GOD.
He said they are sons.
They have God's Spirit
They can refer to God boldly as FATHER.
They are heirs of God through Christ.
They once never knew God and that's y they rendered service to nature when they made a non-existing gods for themselves.
But now since they are sons of God and have God's spirit in them, then they know God which automatically means THEY ARE KNOWN OF GOD.
Glorayyyyyy
Hence, the man known of God or by God is
the Man who knows God.
And who is that man?
A BELIEVER!
THE MAN IN CHRIST!
Hallelujah!
Shout GLORAYYYY
Say to yourself:
Because I had believed in Christ
Because I had believed the gospel of salvation,
Because I am born of God
Because I am a child of God
Because I have the spirit of God in me
I KNOW GOD!!!
I GINOSKO GOD!!!
And which means
I AM KNOWN OF GOD
I AM KNOWN BY GOD
Amen!
Rejoice in the spirit!
Glorayyy!!!
I'm so excited to know that God knows me by name.
