THE STUDY OF THE BOOK OF JOB (CHAPTER 8)
Good evening Saints
Once again I welcome you to another wonderful time to learn at Jesus feet!
U know it's intentional to decided to sit down learn of Christ, so I don't take this opportunity for granted at all.
I want to use d opportunity to appreciate the admin as well for d wonderful privilege to teach among Saints across different countries.
Indeed these are my brothers and many may be older than me in faith, but I bless God who hath given me grace to be able minister of the gospel among many.
Thanks admin!
According to what I've been briefed on, I saw that we have started studying the book of Job.
And last week you people looked at job 7.
So tonight we go to chapter 8.
A word of prayer together
We pray for clarity this night, our eyes of understanding are enlightened, no confusion in this Atmosphere, and together as a church as we behold Jesus and as he sees us in Him, He is GLORIFIED, we are EDIFIED, and Satan is TERRIFIED! IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY!
2Tim.3:15-17
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Now, one thing to first understand about the study of the scriptures is that it was mainly written to us for salvation.
D Bible as a whole, it's focal point, or it's centre focus is SALVATION!
Hence we study every thing in light of salvation, the mind of God to all mankind!
So the study of the scriptures is now to make us wise unto salvation.
Having it at the back of our mind that Wisdom is application of knowledge!
And knowledge according to the Bible is the Greek word 'Epignosis' and it means accurate, precise, full and Correct knowledge! Philemon 6 talk more on that
Therefore, ability to bring out or pay attention to details of the Bible and arrive at a conclusion called SALVATION.
That's wisdom. (Vs 15)
Who is following this, shout Glorayyyy!
We have heard and it's no more an old news that
Old Testament had Jesus CONCEALED!
New Testament had Jesus REVEALED!
I hope u know that Scriptures in this passage refers to the old Testament writings?
So, In another word, the ability to find the prophecies about Jesus in the old testament brings salvation to u.
Cleared???
Therefore in the next verse that says All scripture is given by the INSPIRATION of God, it means God inspired it to be written down.
I do tell people that INSPIRATION is different from DICTATION.
God did not dictate d Bible to people o, NO!
It was inspired to be put down.
God did not say everything in the Bible.
In the Bible, God spoke,
devil spoke
Man spoke
Even animal spoke.
And yet all were inspired by God to be written down.
Y?
For our learning!
Another thing is that, All verses never spoke about Christ!
This might be harsh to hear, but I'm sorry it's d truth.
Think about it, if every verses of the old testament spoke about Jesus, then what is d need of Jesus still doing exegesis in Luke 24, still trying to show himself to people from the scriptures.
It would have been useless if all spoke about Christ.
Luke 24:25
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
In all the scriptures, there is still need to find Jesus there, it is a show that Jesus was not in all verses, there is need to find where he is.
What's d need to find a man in a house if he is in all places of the house?
I hope u get this analogy
And how do we find Christ there?
We must take note and pay attention to details, like uncle Job now that we are studying, we must pay serious attention to everything that was said in the book.
Some places were written as figures of speech, while some places, literal, some place are to be used spiritually and some physically.
If u now mix it together, where it was just literal, u think it's figurative to a blessing attached or a curse attached to someone, then I'm sorry u are no better than d Pharisee.
Some do it unintentionally, those are babes, ignorant of the word of God, but those that intentionally do it, i see insincerity and not appreciating d scriptures, they abuse it else those are d one I mean to not be better than the Pharisees
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matt. 22:29
Lets add another place
John 5:39
AMP: You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me!
Hence, don't confuse any physical event to mean spiritual things.
That's an abuse of the Bible!
Where it is figurative, explain it that way, where it is physical, use it that way, where it is spiritual, use it that way and where it is literal, let it just be that way.
Dont do over syllabus of the apostles please biko
Don't forget we are on Job 8 ooo. We are still coming here.
I'm first setting our minds on the foundation so that by d time we start Job 8, u will understand clearly and there won't be mix up or confusion.
Amen to someone!
So in verse 16
It's profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction...
'Profitable' is the Greek word 'ophelimos' and it means helpful, serviceable, advantageous.
Profitable for what
1. FOR DOCTRINE - in Greek 'didaskalia' meaning instruction, teaching, learning,
2. FOR REPROOF - 'elegchos' which is proof, conviction, evidence.
U are a Christian because Bible said so.
U have the holy ghost in u, it's because Bible said so
God loves you, we know because Bible said so.
Jesus died for your sin and saved us from sins' consequence for life and hence we can NEVER GO TO HELLFIRE again as a believer, the Bible is what we use in giving this proofs or evidence.
Do you get it?
Anyone who talks about God and can not back it up from the Bible IN CONTEXT, then that person is also not better from an Antichrist.
I'm so sorry for being harsh tonight in words, I'm not always like that, but sometimes we need it.
3. FOR CORRECTION - 'epanorthisis' it means straightening up again, rectification, Reformation.
This shows the possibility of believers to err, make mistakes, commit offences, or even interprete scriptures wrongly.
The Bible is God's ONLY tool for chastisement.
4. FOR INSTRUCTIONS UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Instructions - 'paideia' meaning chastening, tutorage, disciplinary, correction by implication, education, or training, nurturing as well.
The chastening tools of God to His children is not diseases, death, accident or negative things.
NO!
IT IS HIS WORD.
Hence, some words may hit u thoroughly or badly in Job 8, don't be angry, just endure it.
Heb. 12:11
AMP: For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness—in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God].
So let's talk about job a little before I finally touch the chapter and we close.
The book of Job was written by Moses according to theologians, looking at the way it was written and when it was written, it is said to be d oldest book in the Bible.
Job was very just, when it comes to self righteousness, he never commit any identified sin, not because he can't but because he mostly didn't have d opportunity to sin.
He served God during his time out of fear of evil.
He knew God based on rumours and what people say about God and what he heard.
Unlike Abraham who believed and was accounted unto him for righteousness despite him committing some sins, Job did not.
Job was only serving God because he does not want evil as the people had painted God for him.
So as we continue the study of the book of Job, pay attention to every details, u will see that virtually everything was spoken based on circumstances, see an instance of what happened to Job in Job. 1:21 and his response to it.
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. 22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
Should I say Job spoke like an confused person here.
How can we give bless God for giving something that he will one day take away?
Imagine an hen giving thanks to u for feeding him knowing fully well that Easter is on it's way that u are going to use it for meal?
Is that not funny?
Imagine u appreciating a doctor who inflict u with sickness and healed u after a while?
How stupid does that sound?
Again... I'm sorry o. Holy spirit, I don't want to be too harsh in Jesus name.
We often use this verse for burial services, but if u look at it carefully, u will see that Job was gibbering words out of frustration.
Many bad news at a time can make you say unreasonable things that u might not actually understand it when u later think about it.
And I've said it earlier that Job served or knew God based on what he heard from people.
Look at his conclusion in Job 42:1-6
1 Then Job answered the Lord, and said, 2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.
That verse 3 made me laugh out
Kai...Uncle Job I greet una. lolsss
Therefore Job 8 was just one of d replies of what Job had said in chapter 7
So Job expressed how he felt in chapter 7 about his suffering and affliction.
He also added that he can't be comforted with words!
The suffering was beyond him honestly
See what he concluded at in verse 20 of chapter 7
If I have sinned, what have I done to you, you who see everything we do? Why have you made me your target? Have I become a burden to you? 21 Why do you not pardon my offenses and forgive my sins? For I will soon lie down in the dust; you will search for me, but I will be no more.
He was like saying to God
"What self...if I offend u, u no fit forgive me or wetin self? Which kind God you be self? I served u and do sacrifice everyday for my sins and that of my children, yet u Sha want to inflict me with such punishment. Oya show me the sin I committed self?"
Those were what Job was trying to prove to God - SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Have ye not read that our righteousness is like a filthy rag before God?
Have ye not read also that if God shall impute sin, WHO CAN STAND?
It shows that God has NEVER IMPUTE SIN, will not do it now and will never do it.
Psalm 103 and 2Cor.5:19 talked more on that.
God's standard of imputing sin, NO man can ever be righteous by works.
Never!
God's standard out beats man's standard of looking at sin.
So by now, u should know what brought about Bro Bildad d wonderful, judging, confused and comforting friend of Job.
Abi?
I mean what brought about his reply in chapter 8
Job was trying to prove righteous before God but Bildad gave many replies that looks confusing, some judged Job that he can never be perfect, some reveal God heard about from people's rumor
That God does not punish anyone who is righteous, so obviously job's suffering was based on one sin that we don't know.
That was where Bildad started from
1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, 2 How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? 3 Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? 4 If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; 5 If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; 6 If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. 7 Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. 8 For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: 9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) 10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart 11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? 12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. 13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: 14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. 15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. 16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. 17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. 18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. 19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow. 20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers: 21 Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. 22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
See verse 3 to 6 again
That God is just to the just, good to the godly, and gives justice to the unjust and ungodly!
He says job can't tell him that he is 100% clean without sin.
Same thing was spoken about in Rom. 10:1-4 by Paul
1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Can you see that the worst thing to do is to serve God out of ignorance?
That's exactly who Job was in his time.
He served God based on rumour from people.
1st lesson - "Don't know God from afar, neither should u serve God based on rumours"
STUDY TO KNOW HIM
2Tim. 2:15 says Diligently study (labour thoroughly) to show thyself approved...!
I'm already closing
2nd lesson - Don't try to please God by self righteousness. Christ in you (and you in him) is ALL that pleases God.
He's not please based on action, he's already pleased by a man in Christ and that's d reason and what gives strengthen to go on to live holy.
We don't live holy life to please God, we please God already in Christ, and that's d reason we should live holy and away from sin.
Finally 3rd lesson - Let your words be seasoned with grace.
(My time is up already, admin I'm so sorry)
Don't add to someone's frustration, don't add salt in someone's injury, don't imagine or expansiate someone's problems.
It won't help at all
See verse 13 down to 18 for confirmation
U would observe that Bildad judged Job.
He even refer to him figuratively as HYPOCRITE.
What a polite abuse he gave Job.
And later he now start comforting Job in verse 19-22.
I was imagining maybe when he said those judging words, the acceleration of Job crying now increased from gear 7 to 10. D cry now increased
So he was now petting him and encouraging him later.
Eph. 4:29-30
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Words that does not encourage, comfort or edify should not come out of your mouth but words that are seasoned with grace.
Corrupt words also include judging oooo.
Don't judge others people, don't see someone who had an accident or sickness and be asking what sin has he committed, NO!
Let your words bring life and grace and sweetness to the hearers.
To the members, Thanks for following
And thank you for the time
And to d admins, I'm sorry for closing behind schedule, Thank you for the privilege to teach tonight.
I call you all blessed!
